At Ysgol Hen Felin, pupil wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. Our Wellbeing Officer works closely with pupils, families, staff, and external agencies to ensure that every child receives the support they need to feel safe, happy, and ready to learn.
The Wellbeing Officer provides a nurturing and supportive presence within the school, helping pupils to overcome challenges that may affect their emotional health, attendance, engagement, or overall wellbeing. Through individual support, group interventions, and family liaison, the role promotes resilience, positive mental health, and strong relationships.
The Wellbeing Officer also supports the wider school community by signposting families to appropriate services, coordinating wellbeing initiatives, and helping to foster a culture where every pupil feels valued, respected, and supported. Through this holistic approach, we aim to ensure that all learners are able to flourish both academically and personally.
At Ysgol Hen Felin, we understand that emotional wellbeing is fundamental to successful learning, positive relationships, and personal growth. The Thrive Approach is a whole-school, evidence-informed framework that supports the social and emotional development of our pupils, enabling them to feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
Through creative, play-based, and relationship-centred activities, Thrive helps pupils develop emotional resilience, self-esteem, communication skills, and confidence. By identifying and responding to individual needs, we provide tailored support and targeted interventions that help pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
Our dedicated team includes three licensed Thrive Practitioners, who work closely with pupils, families, and staff to promote positive emotional wellbeing throughout the school. We are also continuing to develop a dedicated Thrive environment, providing a nurturing space where pupils can access personalised support and develop the skills needed to thrive both in school and beyond.
At Ysgol Hen Felin, we are committed to creating a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment where every pupil can succeed. Our Behaviour Support Coordinator plays a key role in promoting positive behaviour, supporting pupil wellbeing, and working collaboratively with staff, pupils, and families to remove barriers to learning.
The Behaviour Support Coordinator provides guidance and targeted support for pupils who may experience social, emotional, behavioural, or communication difficulties. Through proactive strategies, personalised interventions, and strong relationships, they help pupils develop self-regulation skills, emotional resilience, and positive engagement with learning.
As part of this role, the Behaviour Support Coordinator oversees the implementation of behaviour support approaches, including Team Teach, a nationally recognised method of positive behaviour support and de-escalation. Physical intervention is only used as a last resort and solely when there is a significant risk of harm to a pupil or others. Any intervention is undertaken by appropriately trained staff in accordance with school policies, statutory guidance, and Team Teach principles. Parents and carers are informed following any significant incident, and all interventions are carefully recorded and reviewed.
