Welcome to our College Provision Page
At Key Stage 5 we provide opportunities for pupils to develop a wide range of skills. Teachers are encouraged to use appropriate programmes of study that suit the pupils individual needs. The Essential Skills Wales Framework is used to inform planning. Individual targets are taken form the objectives of each pupil’s statement and termly targets are set from these. Basic skills are learnt through Number and Communication sessions. Pupils also access weekly ICT sessions where they can learn and refine their ICT skills.
We use a variety of programmes and interventions such as Agored Cymru Units, OCR, Duke of Edinburgh Award and W.E.S.T. (Wales Essential Skills Toolkit)
We also offer a Youth Engagement participation service delivered by Ryan Strong to deal with issue based work that affects young people in their everyday life, such as; sex related education, alcohol, social media and keeping safe online, handling money, drug awareness and positive relationships.
Our curriculum also offers Physical Education, Careers and the World of Work, where our pupils participate in Carpentry, hairdressing, Painting and decorating and restaurant work. Pupils in Years 13/14 will have the opportunity to experience the world of work and will be placed in a workplace of their preference if possible throughout the academic year.
Our pupils access music production and creative arts as well as having opportunities to develop their social and independence skills during transition to Coleg y Cymoedd Nantgarw campus.
Lessons are delivered using modern, emerging technology and applications and pupils are encouraged to use ICT whenever possible.
When appropriate, we encourage peer supported learning to develop communication, working with others and social skills. We also present the pupils with challenging activities to develop their problem solving and thinking skills.
All staff within our area work closely together to produce termly planning and also to assess pupils’ work through the process of moderation.
